Fujiwara no Ujimune (藤原氏宗)
FUJIWARA no Ujimune (810 - March 27, 872) was a court noble and politician in the imperial court who lived in the first half of the Heian period. He was the seventh son of FUJIWARA no Kadonomaro. His mother was a daughter of WAKE no Kiyomaro. His wife was FUJIWARA no Yoshiko (a Naishi no tsukasa (female palace attendant) and the foster mother of Emperor Uda), who was a daughter of FUJIWARA no Nagara of the Northern House of the Fujiwara clan. FUJIWARA no Tsunetsugu was his brother, and FUJIWARA no Harukage and FUJIWARA no Arifumi were his sons. He was awarded Shosanmi (Senior Third Rank) and was Minister of the Right.
In 832, he assumed the post of Daijo (Senior Secretary) of Kazusa Province. After that, he continued to be promted, assuming the posts and ranks as follows. Governor of Hitachi Province (842); Togu no suke (Assistant Master in the Crown Prince's Quarters, 848); Sangi (councilor, 851); Jusanmi (Junior Third Rank, 859); Chunagon (Vice-Councilor of State, 861); Ukone no daisho (Major Captain of the Right Division of the Inner Palace Guards, 863); Sakone no daisho (Major Captain of the Left Division of the Inner Palace Guards, 866); Dainagon (Chief Councilor of State, 867); and Togu no fu (official in charge of the Crown Prince's education, 869). In 870, at the age of 61, he attained the position of Minister of the Right.
On Emperor Seiwa's orders, he compiled the Jogan Kyaku (Regulations of the Jogan Era) in 869, and the Jogan Shiki (Procedures of the Jogan Era) in 871. He was also involved in the minting of Jogan Eiho coins and greatly contributed to Emperor Jogan's reign, which becme known as 'Jogan no Chi' (the glorious reign of Jogan). He died in 872 while he was Minister of the Right, and was posthumously awarded Shonii (Senior Second Rank).
